Old School Trucking

Before travelling to Australia late last year I contacted Mr Anthony Janner through Facebook after seeing his stunning Kenworth SAR featured in the KLOS book. AJ as he's more commonly known was more than happy to meet up and get some photos taken of his pride and joy. We met at the Castlemaine Truck Show and AJ kindly parked his SAR up for us to take some photos for this Global Trucking Feature.
AJ's Kenworth SAR was made in 1987 and it's original owner was Doug Thurwood who used the truck to haul magazines and steel. It was originally painted in the colours you see it in today and had a 350 horsepower water jacket CAT and a nine speed box. It now runs a 425 ATAAC CAT engine with a 14 speed spicer box with Eaton 3.55 diffs.

AJ is the fifth owner and has had the Kenworth for eight and a half years and hauls fridge vans with produce and flat tops with steel containers. The Kenworth had a new paint job two years ago with new interior and plenty of bling added. The KLOS boys at www.kloscustomtrucks.com put a fair bit of bling on it just to give it that cool KLOS touch. The SAR gets to plenty of Truck Shows in Victoria and it's not often she drives away without a trophy sitting in the bunk.
Infact this Kenworth has won an impressive nineteen trophies including two Rig of the Show, it's also won the trophy for the best over fourteen years at the Castlemaine Truck SHow three years in a row which is a big achievement as it's one of the biggest shows in Australia!

AJ was only planning on keeping the SAR for a few years and then upgrading to a newer Kenworth but he reckons you just can't compare the 87 model to a new one."they just don't make them the same" ..."She's a classic not plastic!" says AJ
The SAR proves to be quite the showstopper with people often stopping and taking photos of it. It was recently on a Australian cop show called "RUSH" getting chased by the cops, a big thrill for AJ and the actors loved it also aparently.
The last word goes to AJ "She's had alot of changes over the years, different bunks, bullbars, aircleaners, offset buds on the steerers but I've got it the way I want it now"

A huge THANK YOU to AJ for all his help with this article and parking up for the photos at Castlemaine.
