Spiderman Returns!

Written by David Kinch

Friday afternoon July 22nd and after months of waiting Scott Hutton finally gets to pick up his K108 kenworth from Southpac Trucks in Christchurch.
You see the thing is that Scott had already done this once before but after just three weeks on the road he was involved in a fatal accident where a car crossed the centre line and hit the drivers side of the Kenworth putting it out of action for some time.
Now as you can see the "Spiderman" K108 is ready to spin it's web on the southern highways once more with 23 year old Scott Hutton behind the wheel running  five nights a week from Invercargill to Palmerston, swapping with a Christchurch unit and then returning to Invercargill in the deep south.

The cab and chasis are painted in factory blue and Darryn Caufield has added his touch of class airbrushing the amazing Spiderman graphics on the top of the aerodyne sleeper and a different picture on each side of the truck. The Kenworth is powered by a 615 horsepower Cummins ISX engine which should be more than enough grunt to power through the southern hills.

Some of the other features on this South Coast Linehaul K108 are the durabright rims on the tractor unit, the extra air intakes added to the front of the cab by Willie Malcolm, twin mitre cut stacks and air intakes up the back of the cab and last but not least the biggest feature (apart from the airbrushing of course) are the square fuel tanks!
Now each to their own but having been over to Australia late last year I grew very fond of how the square tanks looked and amazingly this K108 is one of very few in New Zealand to have them.
So in closing if you're travelling down to the deep south of New Zealand keep your eyes peeled because the Spiderman K108 may just sneak up behind you and catch you in its web!
